Petition of Right - a statement of civil liberties sent by the English parliament by Charles- 1628  
The English Civil Wars-  a series of civil wars and political machinations between Parliamentarians and Royalists principally over the manner of England's governance- 1642 

Putney Debates- a series of discussions among the increasingly dominant New Model Army - 1647

Habeas Corpus Act - passed during the reign of the restored monarchy of Charles II after the English civil war- 1679 

The Glorious Revolution - November 1688 deposition and subsequent replacement of James II and VII as ruler of England, Scotland, and Ireland by his daughter Mary II and his Dutch nephew and Mary's husband, William III of Orange.

The English Bill of Rights- an act that the Parliament of England passed on December 16, 1689. The Bill creates a separation of powers, limits the powers of the king and queen, enhances the democratic election and bolsters freedom of speech. - 1689

The American Revolution - a colonial revolt that occurred between 1765 and 1783. The American Patriots in the Thirteen Colonies defeated the British in the American Revolutionary War with the assistance of France, winning independence from Great Britain and establishing the United States of America.- 1765 

The U.S. Bill of Rights- The United States Bill of Rights comprises the first ten amendments to the United States Constitution - 1791

The French Revolution-  a period of far-reaching social and political upheaval in France and its colonies- 1799

The Fall of the Roman Empire 04.17.20

Reading guide:  1. What were the causes of each condition that led to the fall of the Roman empire?        a. Disruption Trade -  Hostile tribes outside of the boundaries of the empire interfered with the trade.      b. Gold and Silver drain - Expansion fo the empire exceeded the amount of gold and silver available to be found      c. Inflation - Disappearance of money.      d. Reading Guide:  ACTIONS = ORANGE  CAUSES = GREEN  OUTCOMES = BLUE  1. Otto invades Italy on pope’s behalf.  Fallowing Charlemagne's footsteps.  Otto was rewarded by being crowned emperor. 2. Pope Gregory bans lay investiture.  The church began to resent the control that kings exercised over clergy and their offices.  Henry IV immediately called a meeting of German Bishops he appointed. 3. Henry IV travels to Canossa. Tired to win the Pope's forgiveness. Henry waited in snow for 3 days. Henry's ex-communication ended.  Henry rushed home and punished nobles who rebelled against him.  Pope gained even greater victory by humiliating him. 4. Representatives of the Church and the emperor meet in Worms. Gregory and Henry's successors fought over lay investiture until 1122. Compromise- The concordant of worms - the church alone could grant a bishop his ring and staff, yet the emperor had the appointment of a bishop....
